NEXT Exam

NEXT (National Exit Test) is a proposed national-level examination in India. It is designed to serve as a common exit test for medical graduates. It aims to standardize medical education and assessment across the country, ensuring that all MBBS graduates meet uniform criteria of competency before entering the medical profession or pursuing further specialization. It will function both as a qualifying and ranking examination for entry into postgraduate medical programs and as a licensing exam for clinical practice.

The purpose of the NEXT exam is to grant admission to postgraduate medical studies. The upcoming test will be divided into two sections, Step 1 and Step 2. Generally, Step 1 consists of a theory-based exam, and Step 2 assesses the applicants' practical expertise. These will be carried out in the process of applying for PG course admission.

The National Health Commission (NMC) will administer the NEXT exam. It serves as a gateway to both domestic and international clinical practice. The test is strategized to take the place of the FMGE and NEET PG exams.
